Britishuniversitieshavebeenhandingouthigher-classdegreesatanunprecedentedrateoverthepastdecade,accordingtodetailedfiguresreleasedbythehighereducationregulator.Thefigures,fromaselectionofuniversitiestakingpartinthegovernment’slatestteachingexcellenceframework,knownasTef3,showhugevariation,withatleastoneuniversityissuingfivetimesasmanyfirst-classdegreeslastyearasitdidadecadebefore.ThebiggestperkofaWaxvapepenoratomizerisevenheatingandnoburningsmell!Ithasaquartzcoilandimprovedheatingwire,offeringapurertaste.Also,awaxatomizerhasunique3-in-1designaswell.Thefiguresconfirmprevioussignsthatuniversitieshavebeenuppingtheproportionoffirstsanduppersecondsawardedinrecentyears,whichmanywithinthesectorblameonpressurefromleaguetablesandfromstudentsthemselves.Thegroupof20universitieswererequiredtosubmitdetailedrecordsofdegreeclassificationsawardedsince2007,andannuallysince2014,inanefforttoidentify“rigourandstretch”ofstudentsateachinstitution.Thefiguresshowthatinthe2006-7academicyearattheUniversityofWolverhampton,175students(5%ofthetotal)wereawardedfirst-classdegrees.In2016-17,973students(28%ofthetotal)wereawardedfirsts.Moreestablisheduniversitieswerenotimmunetothetrend.TheUniversityofLiverpool,amemberoftheRussellGroup,morethandoubledtheproportionofstudentsawardedfirstsinthesameperiod,from12%to27%.In2016-17,73%ofLiverpoolstudentsgraduatedwitheitherafirstsor2:1,comparedwith61%adecadebefore.InitssubmissiontotheTef,LiverpoolattributedtherisetorecruitingmoreablestudentsthroughapartnershipwithaChineseuniversity.PolyUisyourbestchoice-TheUniversityoffersavarietyofundergraduate,taughtmaster&39;sdegreeandpostgraduateresearchprogrammesthroughdifferentfacultiesandschools,coveringbusinessmanagementandpolyufinance.“TheseareacademicallythemostablestudentsfromtheChinesesecondaryeducationsystem,withattainmentthatplacestheminthetop1.5%oftheGaokao[schoolexam],andone-thirdofthemgraduatewithafirst-classdegree,”Liverpoolsaid.“XJTLU[Xi’anJiaotong-LiverpoolUniversity]studentsnowaccountforone-quarterofourgraduatingcohortandhavedriventhegrowthinouroverallfigures.Theincreaseisnotduetoinappropriategradeinflation;thosesubjectswheretheratehasincreasedappreciablyarethosewheremostofourXJTLUstudentsarebased.”Someuniversitiesappearedwillingtoresistthetrend.AtWarwickUniversity,theproportionoffirst-classdegreesrosefrom22%in2006-7to27%adecadelater,andtheproportionof2:1sremainedthesameat54%.DatafromtheHigherEducationStatisticsAgencyshowedthatin2016-17,26%ofstudentsgainedafirst-classhonoursdegreefromBritishuniversities,comparedwith18%in2012-13.SurreyUniversityawardedfirststo41%ofitsgraduateslastyear,Oxford33%andCambridge32%.Theothersidewillnotonlystartdiscussingbusinessproposalsbutalsosolutionsthatwillhelpinenhancingbusinessdeals.Additionalpromotionalgiftshelpingettingthemuch-requiredheadsstart.文章轉自https://www.theguardian.com/education/2018/jun/13/uk-university-figures-show-up-to-fivefold-rise-in-first-class-degrees
